When you think 3D, it typically conjures up images of sitting in a cinema with a bucket of popcorn in your lap and an unreasonably large cup of fizzy sweetness balanced precariously on the armrest, while trying to look cool in a pair of stereoscopic glasses

When you think 3D, it typically conjures up images of sitting in a cinema with a bucket of popcorn in your lap...

If you’re anything like me you actually end up looking more like a low budget Marty McFly, and it’s only a matter of time before you elbow your super-sized drink into your date’s lap.

But that’s not how it has to be – and I’m not just talking about the whole awkward cinema-date scenario. As I have discovered in the course of interviewing people for this website, 3D means a whole lot more than just clever cinematography and an optical illusion. There is a whole world (and I mean WHOLE world) of immersive digital technology standing in the wings just waiting for a chance to wow you. REAL 3D, that jumps inside your physical world and gives you a shake.

As the weeks progress towards July 21st (or as we have taken to affectionately calling it 3D-Day) I’ll be talking to some of the most influential thinkers in the business to find out how they see future immersive technologies evolving. We start the journey with Martyn Ware who works with soundscapes, Alice Taylor who is 3D-printing customised toys & Dale Herigstad, who is basically Mr Gestural Interface and worked in the team who dreamt up all that crazy technology used in Minority Report (thank you, all three, for your patience & being my willing guinea-pigs!).

And there is plenty more where that came from! Together we’ll be delving into their expansive brains and having a good old rummage about. What will we find in there? Will you agree?

Well, kind of the main point of this website is for you to let us know. We can’t make this event the way it’s supposed to be made without YOU joining in and telling us what you think… and yes, I am talking to you too! The conversations on this website will play a key part in deciding what b.TWEEN 3D becomes – and there will be opportunities for key contributors to be at the event – so jump in keyboard-first & make sure you bookmark this page as we’ll be revealing more here.

I’ll also be tweeting as more content goes live, so follow us @bTWEEN3D if you want to keep up to date.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts as we take this incredible journey together.
